Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction was part of a JV that replaced the SH-82 bridge crossing active UPRR tracks and the Colorado River. The team sequenced construction to reduce impacts to this primary entrance into downtown Glenwood Springs. To accommodate high river flows, Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction designed and built elevated drilling/caisson platforms to construct center piers. In addition, special cofferdams were used to rebuild the bottom of the stream bed to protect the scour critical columns. To meet the schedule, accelerated construction sequencing, prefabricated form sections and 24 hour/day construction shifts were implemented.
