I-25 North Express, Segments 5 AND 6 CMGC

Weld and Larimer Counties, CO

DETAILS

Scope: RLW improved mainline I-25, reconfigured two interchanges, and reconstructed 11 bridges. The project also included the Berthoud Mobility Hub, which features a pedestrian underpass and slip ramps to allow buses to safely and efficiently exit without crossing multiple lanes of traffic.

Innovation: RLW worked with CDOT and the design team to provide input on design alternatives, schedule, phasing, cost, constructability, and risk through the preconstruction phase. We developed 3D models to help designers determine grading alignments, and generate an earthwork flow chart to accelerated earthwork. These collaborative efforts helped determine the most economical and efficient construction packaging.

Value Metrics

  • Saved millions through preconstruction collaboration on pavements, bridges, and phasing
  • 15 miles of interstate improvements
  • 1,120,000 cubic yds. of earthwork
  • Consistently opened lanes earlier than planned, including opening the critical SH-56 over I-25 interchange ahead of schedule
