Four Interchanges on Bangerter Highway Design-Build

Taylorsville, West and South Jordan, UT

Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction built four grade-separated interchanges with five miles of new three-lane highway in each direction. Work included extensive phasing and traffic control and opening the new interchanges to traffic on an accelerated schedule. UDOT’s top goal was to minimize impacts to the more than 60,000 daily commuters on this corridor. Traffic was placed on the final grade separated interchange configuration, allowing mainline traffic to flow freely and the cross streets to accommodate more traffic with reduced signal phases. The team used accelerated bridge construction (ABC) methods, such as pre-splicing structural steel off-line and then moving it into place already constructed.
